Dentelle et Monroe (Lace and Monroe)
Hello, I'm Lune.
This is a sudden question, but do you like racing?
Today I'd like to talk about lace, a sport that I fell in love with instantly.
There are many charms to lace. The delicate and careful work is endearing, the beauty and techniques of the historic lace from each production region, the high level of skill of the artisans who preserve the traditions, etc. Vintage lace is a work of art.
Racing may be something that gives us dreams.
In early summer 2018, when I visited a long-established lace manufacturer (showroom in Japan) in the Kare region, a river lace production area, I came across a certain lace.
The lace used in Marilyn Monroe's dresses in the 1950s.
It's made with a lot of cotton, giving it a smooth texture. It's dotted with rounded flowers and leaves, and the size and balance of the motifs are indescribably pretty and understated. And the scallops are much larger than regular lace...
I instantly fell in love with the pure, innocent, girlish lace.

Shortly before writing this carnet, I was gathering scraps of Monroe lace in my studio.
I had some scraps saved for a pocket square, so I thought why not make a Monroe-inspired mask out of them?
The skin side is made of silk de chine in a nude pink beige color.
Black grosgrain ribbon accents.
Yes, make the ribbon longer to add a touch of glamour to your face.
A pure, healthy and sexy cotton river lace mask.
What kind of mask would Monroe have worn if she were alive today?
This special lace always takes you on a wonderful journey of imagination. Love continues.
